'Washing Day, c. 1912, by Augustus John (b. 1878), Portrait of the Artist's Wife, Dorelia, washing clothes in the garden of their home at Alderney Manor, Dorset, Print Published 1967' as labelled on back of frame. Full length portrait. She is wearing a dappled red head scarf and shirt over a long blue dress with an off-white apron. She is washing clothes in a bowl and there is washing on a line behind her. John was a Welsh artist, 1878-1961, of the 'Camden Town Group' and the 'New English Art Club' schools.
Art Style: Post-Impressionist, bohemian, rustic.
Frame Details:
Slate green board overlay mount. Narrow wooden frame, light brown with fine grain. Glass to front. Board back on frame with tabbed and taped edges and metal tab for hanging (these are newer).
Size:
External size, including frame, approx 12 1/2 x 9 9/10 inches, 31.8cm x 25.2cm.
Size of visible print only (the mount aperture) approx 10 1/10 x 7 1/10 inches, 25.7cm x 18cm.
Upright.
Condition:
Print excellent. Slight wear to frame edges and a small abrasion to bottom edge of frame. The bottom right of the mount edge isn't dead straight. Rest of frame excellent.
