Colour lithographic print of an earlier engraving, framed. Ready to hang.
An old London scene, in the Georgian era, of two women, a man and a dog outside a house. The man is mending a chair and one of the women is holding another chair. Church dome to background (St. Paul's?). Printed title along the bottom print border states it is 'Old Chairs to Mend' from the Cries of London Series by English artist F. Wheatley, 1795. The original engraving was by Vendramini, the Italian engraver. Printed on textured paper or thin card with a white border.
Art Style: Urban working life, social history, fine, Georgian observational portraiture.
Frame Details:
Wooden frame, black colour finish with pale gold colour beading to inner/outer edges. Glass to front. Board back on frame with tabbed and taped edges and original framer's label (Boots). Metal eyes, with cord for hanging.
Size:
External size, including frame, approx 12 x 9 inches, 30.5cm x 22.8cm.
Upright.
Condition:
Print excellent on the whole with some very slight yellowing to the edges. Wear/marks to frame edges, and small beading chip to corners. Marks on the board on the back of the frame. Rest of framing very good.
